An Electric Meet-Cute
There’s only one name in this story, however, as usual, we’re gonna use a book character name as a pseudonym! Can you guess which book its from with only name?
Hint: A “Normal” Sligo girl…
Summer of 2024. One of my best friends from boarding school, Marianne, managed to get us the gig of a lifetime at Electric Picnic, one of Ireland’s largest camping festivals. Chappell Roan. Conan Gray. Kneecap. All for free. The only thing required of us? Work at the popular breakfast and lunch pop-up stall in the centre of the Jimi Hendrix campsite. The one and only… Sausage Experience.
The name wasn’t the only memorable part of the stall. The food was genuinely delicious. Fresh, filling and cheap. What more could you want? Albeit we stank of sausage everyday (the tent was a mouth-breathing only zone by the end of the 3 days), it genuinely added to our EP experience. Our loyal customers were also hilarious, and it seriously felt like the summer couldn’t get any better.
Cue Saturday evening. I’m being dragged through a bustling crowd by Marianne to get the best view of Kings of Leon. Lights gleaming. Everybody laughing. Drinks sloshing. Irish charm at its peak, when suddenly, a ginormous, tall, American-quarterback-buff-looking man slides past me. We lock eyes, and he says, “I’m sorry to bother you but you’re gorgeous. Have a great night.”
And he. Walks. Away!!! Just left me be with my friends. Could it get any more perfect?! 😍
To say I felt like a main character in that moment, would be an understatement. As I’m writing this on St. Patrick’s eve, I just want to wish everyone the most amazing St. Patrick’s. Let the Irish charm be with you.
